A Development of the Moral Causes of Happiness and Misery Among the Human Species. Elihu Palmer was an ordained Presbyterian minister from Connecticut who valued truth much more than dogma and, therefore, became a Deist. In 1796 he started the Deistical Society of New York and became a close friend and fellow Deist of Thomas Paine. In 1793 he became blind due to yellow fever. However, this did not stop him in his efforts to promote Deism! His wife helped him to continue the Deist struggle for enlightenment and was of great importance in helping him write this excellent book.
